Apparently, bank-robbing magicians are common. Oh, I’m sorry, I misread… Common is a bank-robbing magician. At least, he will be in the upcoming film Now You See Me.
Common joins a stellar cast in the developing thriller to be directed by Louis Leterrier (the man behind the first two Transporter movies, the Edward Norton Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans). Over the fall, a healthy sum of talent accumulated in accordance with this intriguing project: heading the cast are Jesse Eisenberg as the leader of the criminal illusionists, Michael Caine as a patron of the magical crime wave, and Isla Fisher as a weapons expert. Also on board: Mark Ruffalo (as an FBI agent on the team’s trail), Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson, Melanie Laurent and Dave Franco.
Common told Movieline, “I’m about to film this movie called Now You See Me, which stars Jesse Eisenberg and Isla Fisher and Michael Caine and Mark Ruffalo – I’d say it’s an action movie, about these magicians. It’s dope. I’m going down to film that soon. And I’m looking to do more great, quality films – independent, studio, action, drama, comedy, animated…”
The film enjoys a good amount of actor reunions: Common and Freeman (the two starred together in Wanted), Eisenberg and Harrelson (Zombieland), Freeman and Caine (the Batman films), Harrelson and Freeman (the 1990 Earth Day TV Special). And I think that last one is a re-teaming we’ve been wanting to see ever since Walter Samson and the cast of Cheers taught us a little something about recycling.
