Following in the Hulk-sized footprints of yesterday’s poster debut comes a new trailer for The Avengers, which finally ups the action (for a minute it was looking the like the entire movie took place on a singular New York City street), plays up the team and makes promises on what should be one of the biggest event movies of the year. Everyone gets a slice of epic battle with whatever intergalactic force is behind Loki (Tom Hiddleston)’s threatening mischief: Captain America (Chris Evans) flying in with his shield,; Thor (Chris Hemsworth) slamming some baddies with his mighty hammer; Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) heading straight into the fight, only to be rescued lasts second by The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo); and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) doing their best as mild-mannered human S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
The movie looks like a blast, but can it live up that expectations? Rarely do comic book franchises culminate in one triumphant crescendo, so Avengers has to hit some high notes. Is the movie delivering?
