Spider-Man Reboot Gets 3D Upgrade, July 2012 Release Date

The next Spider-Man flick may not have a star — or even a title, for that matter — but that hasn’t stopped Sony from announcing a release date for its recently-launched franchise reboot. The studio issued a press release today proclaiming that Tobey Maguire‘s replacement, whoever he may be, will swing into theaters on July 3, 2012, in 3D, joining the ever-growing trend of summer tentpole flicks filmed in the audience-friendly, pirate-resistant format.

Untitled Star-Less Spider-Man 3D Project (our personal working title for the film) will be directed by Marc Webb, based on a screenplay by James Vanderbilt.

Now it’s time to find Peter Parker. Will it be Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman, perhaps?  We’ll keep you posted.
