Of course Jared Leto would be cast as Andy Warhol in a biopic. A bizarre, artist played by another bizarre artist — has a better casting choice ever existed?

According to THRJared Leto joins Michael De Luca and Terence Winter in creating a biopic entitled Warhol about the pop artist’s rise to fame. Leto, who is playing Warhol in the film, is also producing it along with De Luca. De Luca is no stranger to films based on true stories. He’s worked on major Oscar-winning and nominated films like The Social Network and Captain Phillips.

Winter, who will pen the screenplay, wrote The Wolf Of Wall Street and created Boardwalk Empire. He’ll be using the 1989 book Warhol: The Biography by Victor Bockris to help create the script. Leto and De Luca currently own rights to the book.

Leto seems pretty perfect for the part of Warhol, who was said to have varying moods. Known as a hypocondriac, the artist apparently switched between cold, shallow and quiet to an eccentric center of attention. If there’s anything Leto seemed to pull from his regretful role as the Joker in Suicide Squad, it’s the tempermental personality.

Leto also won an Oscar for playing a gay man with AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club. Warhol was openly gay and surely Leto will draw eccentricities from a similar place. His character in Dallas Buyers Club was eccentric, multi-dimensional and tortured.

There’s no word on when the movie is set to film, but it’ll be very interesting to see what Leto does with the part.
