The 2010 dark thriller Black Swan showed a different side of actress Mila Kunis that we’d never seen before. To prepare for the role, the petite actress had to do way more than simply learn her lines. In order to get into character, Kunis not only had to take ballet lessons but she also had to lose weight in order to mold her already stealth body into one of a trained professional ballerina.

Recently, Kunis sat down with Howard Stern to chat about what she had to do in order to get into shape. She told Stern,“I didn’t starve myself. I did do it in the healthiest way possible. I don’t recommend anybody ever doing it.” The actress who is only 5’4″ weighed only 95 pounds while she was filming. In order to get so small, Kunis stuck to a diet of only 1,200 calories a day and she smoked cigarettes to stave off hunger pains.

The That ’70s Show alum also told Entertainment Tonight, “I never watched what I ate [before]. It was one of those things, for the first time in my life, I got a food delivery service. ” Kunis quit smoking shortly after wrapping the film saying, quitting smoking was one of the best decisions she’s ever made. Still, we can’t imagine engaging in such intense dance training with very little fuel with only cigarettes to push through.
