‘Morbius’ is Out! Here’s Everything You Need To Know Before Watching

Marvel fans, get ready for a movie that’s going to suck — well, hopefully only figuratively. Morbius will be the third entry into Sony’s Spider-Man Universe of films, following Venom and its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The film will star Jared Leto as the titular doctor-turned-living vampire Michael Morbius and is joined by Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, and Jared Harris as Milo Morbius, Martine Bancroft, and Dr. Emil Nicholas respectively.

With Morbius dropping in theaters today, here’s a recap of everything you need to know about Sony & Marvel’s newest installment.

Morbius Release Date

As mentioned above, Morbius was finally released in theaters on April 1, 2022, after having been delayed several times from its original July 2020 premiere date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It comes after the continuing success of Spider-Man: No Way Home (which is still playing in theaters alongside Morbius.)

Film Trailer

Per the trailer above, we now know that Michael Keaton appears as his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) role of Adrian Toomes (aka Vulture). This likely ties the film to the current iteration of Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, and to the MCU at large. We also see Matt Smith’s Milo Morbius getting set up as the film’s main antagonist in addition to showing off some of their bat-like abilities, such as flight, superhuman speed, and echolocation.

Is Morbius a Villain?

Although often thought of as a villain when appearing in any Spider-Man properties, the answer’s not that simple. Much like Venom, Morbius is somewhat of an anti-hero (at least according to the comics.) He was first introduced as Spider-Man’s enemy in the ‘70s but later went on to somewhat redeem himself after seeing the immense destruction left by his own doing and loathing the monster that he had become. His redemption came through helping heroes such as Blade, Doctor Strange, and Werewolf by Night in their various quests against evil — all of which have upcoming projects in the MCU. Because of this, there’s loads of potential for exploring the good side of Morbius as well (if they don’t already do so in his origin film.)

So how does the film portray him? According to the official synopsis of the film, the story will explore this internal struggle by posing the question, “Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?” We can expect the tone of this film to be much darker and more complex than most other Marvel films thus far, and Morbius’ storyline will center around his constant conflict between the good and evil within himself.

See how it all plays out by seeing Morbius for yourself, exclusively in theaters now!
