It’s never too early to get out in front of a comic-book flick. Fresh off the set of The Avengers, Robert Downey Jr. met with L.A. Times’ Hero Complex to discuss Iron Man 3, a film that is still in its earliest stages, lacking so much as a finished script. (Shane Black, who directed Downey in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, is writing and directing the film.) Pressed for details, Downey Jr. spoke with an indistinctness one would expect from someone asked about such an inchoate project, declaring “My sense of it is that we need to leave it all on the field — whatever that means in the end. You can pick several different points of departure for that.” Hmmm … I’m going to go ahead and assume “leave it all on the field” to mean Downey would like Tony Stark to die in the film — preferably on some kind of field. Seems like a reasonable extrapolation.
