Sigourney Weaver famously battled a deadly Queen in James Cameron’s Aliens and now, she’ll play one in Amy Heckerling’s (Clueless) new comedy Vamps.
In the writer-director’s modern-day story, two beautiful young vampires are living the good nightlife in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality. She’s signed on to star opposite Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter as Ciccerus, the bloodthirsty vampire who turned the two ladies into creatures of the night.
Seeing how The Twilight Saga has divided the vampire loving market, having Weaver in the mix gives the project a shot of geek cred, which could help sell tickets to genre junkies who might otherwise ignore a romantic comedy with the undead.
Red Hour Films is producing as well as Lauren Versel of Lucky Monkey Pictures and Molly Hassell.
A late April start is being eyed.
