Sundance 2011: Lionsgate Taking ‘The Devil’s Double’

The Devil's Double PosterAfter receiving postivie reviews, Lionsgate has swooped down on Sundance entry The Devil’s Double, Lee Tamahori’s new film chronicling the relationship between Saddam Hussein’s sadistic son Uday and his reluctant body double. Dominic Cooper stars in dual roles, portraying both the madman and the family man who must risk his own life to protect him.

The company beat out other buyers including The Weinstein Company and Fox Searchlight, both which have acquired numerous titles at the festival already. Relativity Media was also in the mix, but the film doesn’t quite fit its new business model so it passed.

Cooper is a rising star, with a part in Captain America and a sizable role in My Week With Marilyn, both due later this year. No word on when Lionsgate plans to release The Devil’s Double yet, but keep your eyes out for it. In the meantime, check out our exclusive interview with Cooper here.
