Another board game flick has bit the dust. Three weeks after canceling adaptations of Clue, Monopoly, and Magic the Gathering, Universal announced today that it is halting production on Ouija, a film based on the game in which players attempt to communicate with otherworldly spirits, Variety reports. The project had gotten far enough into production to have a release date (November 9, 2012), a director (McG), and a completed script from Lost writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.
Universal has been on a cost-cutting binge of late. In addition to the axed board game projects, the studio recently put a stop to its planned adaptations of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower and H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness. This is what happens when you have one too many Cowboys and Aliens.
