Gleeks across the world are mourning the recent loss of Cory Monteith. Glee‘s shinning star died from a lethal mix of alcohol and heroin last weekend. Jane Lynch, who worked alongside Monteith on the hit Fox show since its 2009 premiere, remembered him Wednesday night while on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
After Leno commended Lynch for still showing up despite the passing of her co-star and friend, Lynch held back tears as she fondly remembered Monteith. The Annie actress praised Monteith’s inspiring spirit, saying, “He was one of those guys that, you know, he knew he was breathing rarified air. The gifts… this wonderful show gave us. And he was one of those guys aware that it was a gift.”
Although Monteith’s life was cut short at the young age of 31, Lynch disclosed, “I don’t think he left one day unloved.” And then went on to say, “We’ve lost a really great guy.”
Ever since Monteith first appeared on the musical comedy as an underdog who grappled with balancing football with glee club, fans were enchanted by the extremely talented actor. Jane Lynch, who plays the malicious Sue Sylvester on Glee, reveals that Monteith was an inspiration off the screen as well. Lynch shared how Monteith once flew across the country with his own money to visit a sick child whose last wish was to meet him. “He was just a real giver,” Lynch adds.
