Amber Riley, known to Glee fans as Mercedes Jones, fainted on the red carpet at a TV Academy event for the Fox musical series on Tuesday night. The young actress/singer was “a little dizzy” (as Riley reports via Twitter) as a result of the multitude of camera flashes at the event (a long day of work is likely to have contributed to the episode as well). Thankfully, Riley “feel[s] fine,” but states that she plans to seek medical attention as a precaution.
Riley extended an appreciation for her many fans’ concern, and for the reverence with which her situation was treated by the photographers present at the event. “I’d also like to thank the photographers for being so professional and not taking photos of me on the ground,” she said. “I truly truly appreciate it. Could have been super embarrassing.”
Finally, the Glee star released an announcement halting all rumors about her physical and mental health and lifestyle choices: “Let me stop the rumor mill right now. I’m not pregnant! Yes I’m black but I don’t have diabetes, I don’t starve myself to fit clothes; I buy clothes to fit ME not vice versa, I DO NOT DIET; I eat right and exercise! I love myself waaaay more than I like my career. I would never ever put myself in harm’s way to mirror any ‘image’.”
Riley is already back at work, rounding out the Glee season as fan favorite Mercedes.
