Tom Cruise sat down for various interviews this week to promote his new movie, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, and was even more than willing to discuss his personal life with Katie Holmes and their five-year-old daughter, Suri. It was odd, considering how celebrities usually refrain from talking about their private lives because it usually encourages the paparazzi to follow them around. But when you consider how young and fresh-faced Cruise is looking these days, it sort of makes sense that he’d feel comfortable with photographers taking candid photos taken of him selling them to tabloids. So what, exactly, is Cruise’s beauty routine?
The Hollywood Reporter has a pretty extensive article that explains how according to the Brazilian magazine EPOCA, Cruise (who turns 50 next July) is the patient of Brazilian plastic surgeon Dr. Ivo Pitanguy. This claim is backed up by British reports that allege Cruise has become more concerned with his skin in recent years, which means his youthful appearance could be the result of him using Dr. Pitanguy’s line of skin care (called Beauty By Clinica Ivo Pitanguy), which is sold at luxury department stores like Bergdorf Goodman. However, Cruise has (of course) not commented on whether or not he’s had plastic surgery, and the only concrete ties Cruise has to Pitanguy indicate they are friends: Cruise invited the doctor to the 2009 Rio premiere of Knight and Day, and then Cruise was photographed having lunch with his family on Pitanguy’s private island in Brazil’s Bay of Kings.
Chances are we will never definitively know if Tom Cruise gets plastic surgery from Dr. Pitanguy (who The New York Times described as having a “scalpel guided by heaven”). But he’s certainly doing something to look so young, and it’s probably much more expensive than renting out part of Chelsea Piers to spend some of his free time bouncing among styrofoam shapes with Suri.
