Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress Inducted into R&R Hall of Fame

lady gagaLady Gaga famously wore a meat dress to the MTV Video Music Awards on September 12th, 2010 — a whole nine months ago. So it’s kind of curious to learn that in all the crazy outfits she’s worn since then, the people in charge of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame chose to induct the meat dress into their fortress of nostalgia. I think by all accounts, we can agree that Lady Gaga certainly deserves recognition for her accomplishments in pop music and for raising awareness for the gay community, and I don’t think anyone has a problem with the venue showcasing some of her memorabilia. But the meat dress isn’t really something you can just put in a glass box and leave by itself. It’s just not your average musician’s belonging — it probably requires a lot of personal attention. For instance, wherever it will be kept will have to be colder than an icebox to keep up a united front against the maggots. Additionally, someone will probably have to go into that icebox each day and reposition the meat on the dummy it will be sitting and redistribute the weight so it doesn’t just rip apart. If any juices happen to drip out of it, someone is going to have to clean that up. If ice crystals start to form, someone is going to have to chisel them away. It just requires so much more attention than lets say, Bruce Springsteen’s River shirt, and the Hall of Fame is going to have to pay people more to maintain it…which might be hard because last I heard, people weren’t exactly trampling over other themselves in the lines for tickets.
