Box-office heavyweights Depp and Jolie join forces for this adaptation of Olen Steinhauer’s bestselling spy novel. Depp stars as an American traveler whose European vacation takes an unexpected turn when he links up with a beguiling stranger (Jolie) and is unwittingly immersed in a criminal conspiracy as a result.

What We Think: Though a top-notch cast and Steinhauer’s riveting source material suggest a veritable slam-dunk, The Tourist’s many abrupt personnel changes throughout pre-production (see below) have served to temper our expectations.

Cool to Know: Tom Cruise and Sam Worthington had both been cast in Depp’s role before bowing out, while Charlize Theron was the original choice to play Jolie’s character.
