‘House’ Star Jennifer Morrison Beams Aboard ‘Star Trek’

Jennifer Morrison could tell you exactly what role she’s playing in J.J. Abrams new Star Trek film … but then she’d have to set her phaser to “kill.”

Ever since spy photos were snapped of the 28-year-old actress, who plays Dr. Allison Cameron on the hit medical drama House, on the set of director Abrams’ big screen update of the classic ‘60s sci-fi series, the Internet’s been a buzz with debate over exactly who she’ll be playing in the film. Speculation has ranged from the original series’ Yeoman Janice Rand (Abrams has denied this) to James T. Kirk’s early love Dr. Carol Marcus (who may or may not be in the script) to Number One (the original first officer of the starship Enterprise) to Kirk’s mother Winona.

Hollywood.com ran into the recently blonded Morrison at a luncheon for InStyle magazine, and the stylish star was still keeping mum on what type of 23rd Century uniform she’d donned for the part–though she did give up a couple of compelling details about her experience working under the radar. We’re hoping that if she still needs to keep her mouth shut the next time we encounter her that we’ll have perfected our Mind Meld technique.

Hollywood.com: What, if anything, can you tell us about Star Trek?
Jennifer Morrison:
That I’m in it. That’s about all I can say [laughs].

HW: Did they give you a lecture about talking about it?
JM:
You have no idea how many forms I signed. I signed my life away!

HW: Were you prepared to enter that whole world?
JM:
It was really crazy. I felt like I was in a videogame or something. We all had code names and we had to be in golf carts that had black covering and make sure that no one saw our costumes and we had assigned cloaks–we had to have cloaks on and hoods up so that no one could see our costumes if we were outside the stage. I get it, because the Star Trek fans are so intense about it and they’re doing a great job of keeping it all very secretive, but yeah, it was kind of fun. You feel like you’re on a secret mission or something.

HW: Have you met any of the old school cast members?
JM:
See, this is going to show you that I don’t know anything about Star Trek … Leonard Nimoy! That’s who I met. He’s great. He’s awesome. It was brief. He was on set during one of my scenes and we just kind of chatted for a little bit and he’s very excited about it and seems to be super cool.

HW: Are you prepared for your first encounters with the fans?
JM:
No! I have no idea. People are trying to explain to me and I really don’t think that I grasp it, but I’m excited.
