The Old Man and the Sea: Robert Redford Battles the Elements in ‘All Is Lost’ Trailer

If you’ve seen Jeremiah Johnson, you know there are few things better than watching a near-wordless Robert Redford. The legendary actor has always recognized the power of understatement, of finding meaning between the lines — in the pauses, the quiet moments that make up so much of life. Based on the rhapsodic response J.C. Chandor’s (Margin Call) survival-at-sea epic All Is Lost drew at Cannes, Redford has done it again.

This time he plays a yachtsman whose vessel collides with a cargo container and starts taking water. Then a storm comes up. Soon he even loses his one connection to the world: his radio. Based on the first trailer, this is going to be another dialogue-minimal showcase for Redford to play a man testing himself against all that nature can throw at him. Sign. Us. Up. But we will need some Dramomine.
