Tom Hanks Confirms Toy Story 4?

Could there really be a Toy Story 4 on the horizon? According to Tom Hanks, who plays Woody, it’s going to happen. In an interview with BBC News, Hanks was asked about the prospects of a new Toy Story film. Hanks replied “I think there will be yeah. Yeah, yeah, think they’re working on it now.”

While the series apparently drew to a close with last summer’s Toy Story 3, at least part of the cast is still under contract. Tim Allen, who voices Buzz Lightyear, is still signed on for a fourth film.

It isn’t hard to imagine why Pixar is considering a fourth Toy Story movie. Toy Story 3 made over 1 billion dollars in gross revenue, won an Oscar, and was highly acclaimed by critics and viewers alike. The third film did bring the series to a genuine, definitive end, however, and reopening the story seems like a strange creative choice. It appears that this may be a battle between those two long-time Hollywood foes: art and money. While art might let Toy Story 3 lie as a fitting conclusion to a beloved series, money isn’t so hot on letting a phenomenally successful franchise go. Then again, Pixar done great work with unlikely projects before. If there’s a good story left to be told in the Toy Story universe, I trust Pixar to tell it.

Of course, this may all be moot. The word of one star isn’t a guarantee of anything, so I would take this news with a good deal of salt, for now.
