Super-successful web series The Lizzie Bennet Diaries took the term “transmedia” to a whole new level: all of its fictional characters (and their real-life actors) had their own Twitter profiles, and their tweets worked both to promote new episodes and explore new avenues of plot. Jane Bennet (the fashionista of the clan) even had a Lookbook profile, where her (adorable) outfits were chronicled.
Emma Approved (the most recent creative offering from Pemberley Digital) takes everything that made The Lizzie Bennet Diaries such a viral hit, and ups the ante even higher. Case in point: eponymous protagonist Emma has her own fashion blog, which features all of the outfits she (and assistant Harriet Smith, plus all the other ladies who happen to drop by) wear on the show. She breaks down each look with that signature Emma upbeat charm, and even better? The clothes mostly come from sites like Lulu’s and Modcloth; making them within reach for their youthful fanbase. Also, Emma tends to dress on the professional spectrum, and the creative (and affordable) outfits she puts together make for great inspiration for the young adults just entering the workplace and the twenty-somethings struggling to find their place in the pecking order.
It’s not all workwear, though: Emma also wears her party outfits (like the fabulous gold and black brocade number above) with utmost pride. Confidence is her trade, and she does it right.
And even with a delightful little fashion blog under her belt, Emma pushes the transmedia envelope even further – she recently posted a video of Harriet singing and playing the ukulele, along with a call to action. Followers of Emma Approved are invited to cover Harriet’s music, and tweet the video, along with the hashtag #HarrietSongs – yet another innovative experience for all parties involved. Looks like Pemberley Digital is continuing its interactive entertainment revolution rampage.
