From Victoria’s Secret Angel To CEO: Lindsay Ellingson Spills Her Best Lifestyle Tips

Lindsay Ellingson is no rookie when it comes to living the glamorous life. She’s graced the catwalks of the top fashion brands–from Chanel to Dior to Givenchy. She’s worn the coveted Victoria’s Secret angel wings for eight shows and now she’s the CEO of her own cosmetics line, Wander Beauty. She’s even recently been chosen to try out the new Fruit Of The Loom merchandise that is going to change the game for packaged underwear. It’s clear she’s found major success in the world of fashion, beauty and love and she sat down with Hollywood.com to talk all about it!

I’m so excited to be talking to you! How are you?

Lindsay Ellingson: We’re actually in St. Tropez. We just got here. It’s really beautiful and we’re enjoying ourselves.

I’m so jealous! So, to get started, I heard that you recently saw the new Fruit Of The Loom merchandise. What do you think is different about their new line?

LE: I was so pleasantly surprised when I went into the store, which turned out to be all Fruit Of The Loom packaged underwear. I haven’t got packaged underwear in years and they really sold me on the quality and the variety of the styles, fabrics, textures and really fun colors. I was really impressed.

Do you have a favorite part about their new line? Maybe something that stuck out to you the most?

LE: Well, my favorite were the boy shorts. I love to sleep in boy shorts and the Fruit Of The Loom’s were so comfortable. I love the bright colors, they look really cute when I throw a t-shirt on with it. So, those definitely stuck out to me.

Everyone loves a good pair of boy shorts. So, you’re a super established and popular VS model, which means you know all about the boy shorts and lingerie in general. What advice or tips can you give to someone looking to buy lingerie for the first time?

LE: I personally love lingerie. I’ve been buying, shopping and modeling in lingerie for 10 plus years. So, for women who are shopping for the first time, I’d say start with the basics and work your way up. Definitely buy a variety and start with something that is comfortable and then work your way up to more flirty and lacey pieces. Comfort is key. Fruit of the loom has really cute lacey briefs.

Awesome! Comfort is definitely key because wearing lingerie requires a lot of confidence. What advice could you give to girls who are insecure with their bodies?

LE: I’m the same way. Some days I don’t feel confident wearing, you know, like a crop-top. So, when you’re getting dressed for the day, gravitate towards items that you feel comfortable in. Don’t feel pressured to follow some trend. Just be yourself, be you and that’s how I think you’re going to feel the most confident.

Agreed. And your new beauty line, Wander Beauty, is totally going to help instill confidence in a lot of girls. Can you describe the moment you decided to open your own makeup line?

LE: Well, I’ve been doing my own makeup for red carpet events for years, but it wasn’t until I met my business partner (Divya Gugnani) a few years ago that I realized I could actually turn my passion for beauty into a makeup line. And that I could share all of my beauty secrets that I’ve been keeping stored in the back of my mind for the past 10 years with women all over the world. It’s such a fun experience. Wander Beauty is all about creating multi-tasking makeup essentials. My goal is to simplify women’s beauty routine. So, we’re the opposite of an artistry brand. We’re for the everyday women who is very busy and only has 5 minutes in the morning to get ready. So, that’s our goal, to really keep you beautiful and gorgeous on the go.

Wow. That totally caters to me because I like to sleep in and do my makeup super fast.

LE: Yup, me too!

So, it’s awesome that you’re doing that. I even heard that Sephora recently picked up your line, which is a huge deal. Can you describe the first time you saw your Wander Beauty in Sephora stores?

LE: Oh my gosh. It was such a surreal moment. To have Sephora backing our brand and being in love with our brand is quite an honor. We started at QVC, we launched at Net-A-Porter and now Sephora is like the icing on the cake because that’s where we can really reach women all over the country and all over the world. We have one product in stores right now, it’s our “On-The-Glow Blush and Illuminator,” and then in October we are going to be in stores with our entire line. It’s such an exciting time. I’m still modeling, but it’s so great to branch out and do something that I’m so passionate about.

Congratulations! I can’t imagine how exciting that moment was.

LE: Yeah, every time I walk into the store I take a selfie. People probably think I look crazy because I’m like taking a picture with the product, checking the shelves, making sure everything looks nice, but it’s really fun!

That would definitely be me, too! So, what’s your favorite beauty trend for the summer?

LE: Right now, I’m over-contouring because I think in the summer it’s so much fun to add a little extra bronzer to the apples of your cheeks and across the bridge of your nose. Places on the face that the sun naturally kisses, and our “On-The-Glow Blush and Illuminator” does that perfectly. My body is really tan, but I keep my face out of the sun so my face and body never match, so this product helps give my face a sun-kissed look that’s very natural.

These are great tips! But, on an opposite note, what beauty trend do you think needs to end?

LE: Right now, I’m not so into that perfectly winged cat-eye. I’m more into the grunge, smoky-eye. It’s all I’ve been doing lately when I have events. I think the winged cat-eye is a classic, so it’s always going to come back, but right now it’s more of that messy smudged-on-your-eye-really-fast look that’s in.

Yeah, plus the winged cat-eye is SO much harder to do.

LE: It’s very hard! I’ve never been able do master it.

Well, it’s amazing how successful you’ve been at branching out and I was wondering what advice you’d give to someone who wants to open their own business?

LE: It’s all about stepping outside of your comfort zone. I grew up very introverted and I’m still a very introverted person, so to me it’s about constantly just pushing and pushing out of your comfort zone because that where you’re going to grow the most. So, anything that scares you? Go for it.

That advice definitely applies to relationships, too. I saw that you and your husband just celebrated your two-year anniversary. Congrats! What do you think is the major key to a happy relationship?

LE: You know it’s a happy relationship when it’s easy and when there’s that trust and love and no jealousy or games or anything. With my husband, he’s always so positive, so grounding and so supportive of whatever I do. So, I’m really grateful for him and all those qualities in him.

Aw, definitely. It’s supposed to be like dating your best friend, right?

LE: Exactly. With my husband it was never like “omg, should I text him?” or “he didn’t call me for two days.” So, I think I knew it was right because it just happened so naturally. That’s one piece of advice that I would give to women who are struggling in this crazy world of dating.

Well, you guys are super cute!

LE: Thanks!

Finally, are you working on any fun new projects right now?

LE: I know I’m talking about my Wander Beauty line a lot, but we’ve been working on a mascara for the past two years and it’s launching in October, which I’m so thrilled about. I’ve been testing and trying and sending formulas back and forth to the lab and it’s been a labor of love. I’m obsessed with mascara and that 60s, gorgeous, Twiggy-look, so I want my mascara to be one that adds volumes and curls, but doesn’t smudge or flakes. I can’t wait to share it with everybody!

I’ll definitely be on the look out for it! Thanks so much for talking to me!
