Biography

With her heartfelt music, enviable fashion sense, and humanitarian efforts, Gwen Stefani embodied the ultimate glam girl who also just happened to be a Grammy Award-winning rock star. As the former lead singer of the pop-ska band, No Doubt, Stefani was the voice behind the smash hits "Don't Speak," "Spiderwebs," and the anthemic "Just a Girl" from the band's album, Tragic Kingdom," which reigned over the charts in 1995. Stefani's inimitable look - platinum-blonde hair, scarlet lips, and midriff-baring street style - made Stefani one of the most iconic women in pop and rock music. After fronting her all-male band for many years, Stefani went solo in 2004, topping the charts with her infectious dance-punk singles such as "Rich Girl," "What You Waiting For," and that year's summer party song, "Hollaback Girl." In the midst of her red-hot career, Stefani dealt with some highly publicized marital problems, but she and her husband, rocker Gavin Rossdale, remained inseparable and kept their marriage intact. In spite of her personal traumas, Stefani remained unfazed and stayed focused on her music career and her successful fashion label, L.A.M.B., proving that she was undeniably one of the most original and influential artists of her generation.

Stefani's solo hit "Hollaback Girl" was inspired by a quote from Courtney Love: "Being famous is just like being in high school. But I'm not interested in being the cheerleader. I'm not interested in being Gwen Stefani. She's the cheerleader, and I'm out in the smoker shed."

.

The video for No Doubt's breakthrough ballad "Don't Speak" was inspired by real intra-band tensions as Stefani was singled out as the group's focal point.
