Victoria Beckham Responds to Criticism: She’s ‘Tired’ But ‘Not Miserable’

Victoria BeckhamApparently, Victoria Beckham isn’t allowed to feel tired. Despite being accomplished in the worlds of music, fashion, business, acting, parenthood and the redefinition of the 1990s, the harsher members of the entertainment journalism world have taken issue with Beckham’s appearance in a few photos taken at the launch event for her ‘Victoria’ line at London’s Harvey Nichols.

After being criticized for looking “miserable” and “tired” in the photos, Beckham publicized her response in the Sunday Mirror (via FashionWeek):

“Look, if people want to say I’m miserable then so be it. I’m really not. I have a lot on my plate. I’m not going to lie about it, I’m tired. I’m really tired but I’m also very happy with my life. I’m basically just like any woman who’s working and has lots of children—it’s tough. I’m up with the baby as all mums are and I wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s not a team of people doing it for me.”

This is hardly an isolated incident, as anyone in tune with the celebrity gossip world knows. We’re all guilty of judging stars a bit too harshly because it’s easy to forget that they’re people who exist with problems and responsibilities when we’re not watching them perform. Thankfully, Beckham responded to these remarks with honesty and tact. Hopefully, critics can keep these attitudes in mind when discussing icons like her in the future.
