Brad and Jennifer’s wedding ring blues

Newlyweds Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston want their wedding rings to be one of a kind.

They filed a $50 million lawsuit Wednesday against the Italian jewelry designer Silvia Damiani and Damiani International for an alleged breach of an agreement preventing him from never replicating their wedding rings.

The lawsuit claimed that Damiani not only reproduced the rings but offered them for sale on the Internet and at jewelry stores in Palm Desert, Calif., and Las Vegas.

“Damiani essentially made Pitt and Aniston serve as its unwilling shills, hawking its jewelry to potential customers,” the lawsuit claimed, as reported by The Associated Press.

The couple’s legal complaint also alleges that Damiani used Pitt‘s original designs to get “the type of publicity that money can’t buy: The purported endorsement and sponsorship of perhaps the world’s most recognizable couple.”

The rings were made in white gold, connected by a bevy of diamonds. Pitt‘s ring has 10 diamonds and is engraved with the words “Jen 2000” with Aniston‘s ring incorporating 20 diamonds and engraved with “Brad 2000.”

The rings being sold online are concentric bands in 18 karat white or yellow gold, connected by 12 or 13 diamonds and cost about $1,000 apiece. They are custom-ordered and take about two months to make.

The lawsuit seeks to stop the sale of any such rings, now and in the future.
