It’s time to cast aside any hope of a Planet of the Apes sequel.
Director Tim Burton said that just the idea of a sequel was enough to make him want to jump out of a window, to Britain’s Independent newspaper on Friday.
Burton‘s remake of the 1968 sci-fi film premiered at the Odeon cinema in London’s Leicester square Tuesday. So far, the film has grossed more than $200 million worldwide.
Burton seems to be quite fed up with big studios, including Fox, who apparently took a long time before deciding to go through with Planet of the Apes. The hold up, Burton told the paper, was the budget.
“They give you a script, and you do a budget based on that. Then they treat you like a crazy, overspending, crazy person,” said Burton.
“I’m fascinated by the studio technique that sort of leaves you bloodied, beaten and left for dead right before you are supposed and make a great movie for them,” Burton added.
“I wonder where the good business is in that?”
Burton‘s repertoire includes Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks and Sleepy Hollow.
