Jackie Chan will be paid $20 million to star in a remake of the 1960 Jerry Lewis comedy The Bellboy, the South China Morning News reported Thursday, citing the actor’s agent, Willy Chan. However, the agent added, “It’s not the amount of money that matters. Jackie often says if Steven Spielberg makes a film, he will be willing to do it for free — because he’s a quality director.” Jackie Chan reportedly joined the $20-Million Club following the huge success last weekend of Rush Hour 2, for which he was paid $15 million. (His costar, Chris Tucker, reportedly received $20 million.) Willy Chan said that he had been in negotiations over The Bellboy for more than a year and that the project was fast-tracked this week following the Rush Hour 2 success.
