Guitarist Wes Borland has left Limp Bizkit, the group announced Friday on its official Web site.
“Limp Bizkit and Wes Borland have amicably decided to part ways,” the release reads. “Both Limp Bizkit and Borland will continue to pursue their respective musical careers. Both wish each other the best of luck in all future endeavors.”
Borland had been a member of the band since the group’s inception in 1994. He was the most popular band member next to frontman Fred Durst, often appearing on stage with elaborate face and body paint.
Borland released Duke Lion Fights the Terror!! in February on Durst’s Flawless Records, a joint venture with Interscope. This debut album by his side project Big Dumb Face was followed by a month-long tour in March.
A split had long been suspected by many. According to Billboard.com, suspicions were confirmed when Durst wrote a post on Oct. 6 that the band, with the exception of Borland, had been in the studio working with producer Swiss Beatz.
Many fans are angered and disappointed by Borland’s departure. Billboard.com quoted a post from fan “Limp Korn” on the official site that they say captures the general consensus of fans: “This is a sad day in the Bizkit world. Limp Bizkit will suck from now on.”
A Limp Bizkit remix album entitled Limp Remizkit, which will feature some re-workings by Borland, is due out in December. The album will also feature remixes by Timbaland, P.Diddy, and the Neptunes.
