The Humanitas Awards, established 27 years ago to reward writers whose work explores the complexities of human experience and sheds light on the positive values of life, announced its list of finalists Thursday, Variety reports. Lee Hall for Billy Elliot, Stephen Gaghan for Traffic, and Kenneth Lonergan for You Can Count on Me will fight it out for the feature film prize. “The finalists represent what is right about television and film,” Humanitas President Frank Desiderio told reporters.
“At Humanitas we celebrate and reward writing that helps us gain a greater appreciation for the dignity of all human beings.” The winners for each of the eight categories will be announced on June 28.
