Based on the Paramount Television series “Mission: Impossible” (1966-73), which aired on CBS and was created by Bruce Geller.
Feature directorial debut for JJ Abrams.
Frank Darabont was brought on board to re-write the script in mid-March 2004, replacing Robert Towne.
Robert Towne was previously attached to do a rewrite but dropped out to direct his pet project “Ask the Dust.”
Scarlett Johansson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Kenneth Branagh, and director Joe Carnahan were all previously attached but left the project when Cruise pushed filming back a year to accommodate the fast-track production of Steven Spielberg‘s “The War of the Worlds.”
