The world of Crazy Rich Asians is officially expanding. HBO has ordered a sequel series to the hit 2018 romantic comedy, bringing back several original cast members and key members of the creative team. The show will continue the story inspired by Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novels.
Production on the Crazy Rich Asians series is scheduled to begin in 2027, with an eight-episode season planned.

Who Is Returning for the Crazy Rich Asians Series?
Constance Wu and Henry Golding will reprise their roles as Rachel Chu and Nick Young, the couple at the center of the original film. Ronny Chieng is also returning as Nick’s cousin Eddie, with all three actors serving as series regulars.

Michelle Yeoh will once again play Eleanor Sung-Young, Nick’s formidable mother. Yeoh is expected to appear in a recurring role throughout the series.
Although several familiar faces are confirmed, there is no word yet on whether other original cast members will return. This includes Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Ken Jeong, and Nico Santos.
Who Is Behind the HBO Sequel?
Adele Lim, who co-wrote the screenplay for the original film, will lead the series as showrunner and executive producer. Director Jon M. Chu is also returning as an executive producer, alongside producers Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and author Kevin Kwan.
Lim said the series will give the creative team an opportunity to explore the characters and their interconnected worlds. in greater depth than a feature film allows.
What Is the Crazy Rich Asians Series About?
Plot details have not yet been revealed. However, Kwan’s book series offers plenty of material for future storylines. Following the 2013 novel Crazy Rich Asians, the author published China Rich Girlfriend in 2015 and Rich People Problems in 2017.
The original film earned approximately $239 million worldwide, becoming a major box-office success and a significant moment for Asian representation in Hollywood.
With production approaching, fans can look forward to revisiting the glamorous world of the Young family when the HBO sequel series moves forward.
