Social activist and director Spike Lee‘s latest target of wrath has centered on superstar Will Smith and his new film’s depiction of racial stereotypes.
At a Harvard University discussion panel on race held last week, Lee voiced his displeasure over Smith‘s decision to play a mystical and spiritual golf caddy in Robert Redford’s “The Legend of Bagger Vance.”
In an interview with the New York Post, Lee criticized Smith‘s role as Matt Damon‘s subordinate in the film he described as “Driving Mr. Damon” for painting such a pretty picture of racial relations in the Depression-era South.
In an interview with the Boston Globe, Lee was quoted as saying: “With all that going on, why are you [expletive] trying to teach Matt Damon a golf swing?”
Lee has in the past criticized Quentin Tarantino for his repeated reliance on racial slurs in “Pulp Fiction” and Cuba Gooding Jr. for his “Show Me the Money” Oscar speech.
