Mariah relapses

It seems Mariah Carey‘s month-long hiatus from the world was not enough.

The pop singer, who was admitted to a Connecticut clinic in July after suffering a nervous breakdown, has reportedly suffered a relapse.

According to the New York Daily News, Carey, 31, was admitted Tuesday to UCLA Medical Center. Hospital officials, however, would not confirm that Carey is a patient there.

Carey‘s spokesperson Cindi Berger issued a “no comment” when asked about the singer’s hospitalization.

Carey had reportedly been staying at the exclusive Bacara resort in Santa Barbara last week, where she signed autographs and was seen eating breakfast at one of the spa’s cafes.

“She has had an emotional setback,” the newspaper quoted an unidentified music industry source as saying. “She had been meeting with executives at Virgin Records, and apparently she simply wasn’t ready for that.”

On Wednesday, Carey postponed an ABC television interview with Barbara Walters on the show 20/20, which was set to air Sept.12. Berger said in a statement that Carey “needs more time to rest.”

The singer and actress also canceled a Sept. 14 appearance on The Tonight Show to promote her upcoming movie Glitter.

Carey was released from the Silver Hill rehabilitation facility in New Canaan, Conn. on Aug. 7 after undergoing two weeks of treatment for a nervous breakdown. Two days later, Virgin Records announced it was delaying the release of her new album.

Glitter, which doubles as a soundtrack for the movie of the same name, was pushed back to Sept. 11. The album was originally slated for release on Aug. 21.

20th Century Fox has also postponed the opening of the film Glitter by three weeks to Sept. 21.
