Oscar Ballots Going Out

The nominees for the Best Picture of 2000 will soon be decided once ballots are mailed to the 4,253 Academy members on Tuesday.

Out of the 242 eligible films, the voting Academy members must choose only five nominees, said Robert Rehme, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The films that qualified for consideration had to be at least 40 minutes in length and must have had a theatrical release in Los Angeles County between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2000.

The nominees in all the categories will be announced Feb. 13 at 5:30 a.m. PST The Academy Awards will be held March 25 at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium and will be televised live on ABC beginning at 5 p.m. PST.
