Dennis Quaid says that he and Meg Ryan still talk frequently, despite his filing for divorce in July 2000, The Associated Press reports.
“We were together for 13 years, we have a child together. She knows me like nobody else. Why not?” Quaid is quoted in W magazine’s August edition.
Jack Henry, Quaid and Ryan‘s son, is 9 years old.
The 47-year old actor, who has starred in more than 45 movies, including Any Given Sunday, Frequency, and Traffic, says that he’s still trying to find himself.
“When you break up, your whole identity is shattered,” he said. “That’s why it’s like death … We’re both trying to find out, ‘Who am I outside of this relationship?'”
Ryan countersued for divorce a few months after Quaid‘s filing, but Quaid says he’s past that and past the pain and jealousy caused by Ryan’s public fling with hunk Russell Crowe.
“Marriages and relationships get stuck, you know? Sometimes you can crack out of it and sometimes you can’t,” Quaid said.
