Aardman Animation, the Bristol, England-based animation studio that produced last year’s hit Chicken Run, has halted production on its current $35 million production of Tortoise vs. Hare, has laid off more than half of its 172-member crew, and has decided to put the entire production on a six-month hold, the London Independent reported Thursday. Aardman spokesman Arthur Sheriff told the newspaper: “Aardman have such high quality control that they will not allow a film to go forward that’s not as good as our last movie, if not better. The problem is with the script; it’s not developed enough. We believe we can make Tortoise vs. Hare into a superb film; we just need a little more time. So far we don’t feel we have got it 100 percent.”
