Shea set for third DGA term

The Directors Guild of America has voted to keep Jack Shea on for a third two-year term, Variety reports. The news comes as the DGA is preparing for contact bargaining with studios and networks. The guild’s current three-year agreement expires June 30, 2002, and the DGA has already begun preliminary work on the union’s proposals. Shea told Variety that a key goal is to protect the economic and creative rights of DGA members. In its last contract talks, the DGA agreed to postpone negotiations until this round, upping the ante in upcoming negotiations with extensive data provided by the industry. The DGA represents about 12,000 members and is considered one of the most powerful unions in Hollywood.
