Stone’s condition more serious than believed

Actress Sharon Stone, who was admitted to an undisclosed San Francisco-area hospital on Saturday after suffering from a brain aneurysm, will have to undergo further testing, Reuters reports. The 43-year-old actress was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a more serious condition than previously reported.

The condition involves bleeding between the middle membrane covering of the brain and the brain itself, causing five to ten percent of all strokes.

Stone will remain in the hospital until doctors zero in on the cause, which doctors said can stem from an aneurysm similar to Stone‘s.

An aneurysm is a ballooning-out of the wall of an artery, vein or the heart due to weakening of the wall by disease. They can be caused by injury or an abnormality present at birth and are often caused or aggravated by high blood pressure.

Stone was brought to the hospital by her husband, San Francisco Chronicle executive editor Phil Bronstein.
