Paul McCartney and his girlfriend Heather Mills announced Thursday that they are getting married, The Associated Press reports.
The ex-Beatle got down on one knee to propose to Mills and gave her a sapphire and diamond ring he bought while vacationing in Jaipur in January.
McCartney, 59, has dated the 33-year-old model for two years. The two met at a charity function for her foundation, The Heather Mills Trust, which provides limbs for amputee war victims. Mills lost part of her left leg in 1993 after a police motorcycle ran her down.
McCartney lost his wife of 30 years, Linda McCartney, to cancer in 1998.
According to The Associated Press, Mills told reporters last year that she would have like to meet Linda.
“To keep a rock ‘n’ roll marriage going for that long is unbelievable,” she said. “She did a wonderful job with Paul and her family and I have nothing but admiration for her.”
The two plan to tie the know sometime next year.
