A24’s ‘Talk to Me’ Sequel is in the Works

A24 has given the nod for a sequel to Talk to Me, the supernatural horror flick that surpassed box office forecasts.

The Australian YouTube sensations Danny and Michael Philippou, who made their feature debut by directing this terrifying thriller, are set to come back for the subsequent film. Danny Philippou is teaming up with Bill Hinzman to pen the screenplay, though the plot remains under wraps at this time.

Talk to Me hit theaters on July 28, shattering predictions with a strong $10.4 million opening. These sales positioned it as one of A24’s largest wide-release launches ever, behind Hereditary which earned $13.6 million on opening weekend. The movie has since pulled in a robust $23.2 million domestically.

The storyline revolves around a group of friends who learn how to summon spirits, a thrilling venture until one of them inadvertently calls forth a terrifying supernatural entity. The cast includes Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, and Miranda Otto.

A24 picked up Talk to Me during the Sundance Film Festival, where it was hailed by critics. The studio later promoted the film at San Diego Comic-Con to drum up excitement for its opening weekend.
