Melissa MccarthyIt seems like Judd Apatow is taking his male-centric criticism to heart. The hit comedy director has just cast Melissa McCarthy in his latest, untitled film. McCarthy was last seen in the Apatow-produced hit comedy Bridesmaids, stealing scenes from co-stars Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolf.

Not much has been revealed about the film, previously titled This Is Forty. McCarthy will join Apatow veterans Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, reprising their married-couple roles from Knocked Up. Albert Brooks, Megan Fox and Super 8 child actor Ryan Lee have also been cast. While the details are still being kept under wraps, Lee will probably be playing the role of McCarthy’s son.

It’s always nice to see an actor who deserves it make it big, and McCarthy may finally be on her way up. I first became familiar with McCarthy’s work from her exuberant, endearing character Sookie on The Gilmore Girls, but lately she’s been more or less wasted in Mike and Molly. No capable actor deserves to languish on a CBS sitcom.
