These days the trailer for a TV show doesn’t give away much. We get some glimpses of our favorite cast members in strange situations doing things we can’t quite discern and no one wants to give away anything. Well, not Downton Abbey. Everyone’s favorite bit of Masterpiece Theater debuted a trailer that is chock full of details of what is going on for the third season.
In under a minute we learn that the Crawleys lost all their money, Mr. Bates is in jail, Shirley MacLaine is on their doorstep in furs, Mary and Matthew are in a big row (again!), Cora doesn’t want to ask her rich mother for money, the Dowager Countess will deliver more quips, Mary thinks Matthew is not on her side, and Lady Sybill’s Irish Marxist husband is sitting by the fire with Matthew. Leave it to Downton, where a whole World War can pass in seven episodes, to pack so much into 65 seconds.
