Biography

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch possessed the kind of talent that could stand the test of time, as proven by his uncanny ability to portray characters from any time period - from the Victorian era to the 21st century. The actor first gained acclaim in his native England as a stage actor before making the jump to the small screen, appearing in mostly made-for-TV films like "Cambridge Spies" (BBC, 2003), "Hawking" (BBC, 2004), and the epic miniseries "To the Ends of the Earth" (BBC, 2005), as a young aristocrat who goes on a life-altering adventure by sea. By 2011, Hollywood had apparently taken notice of Cumberbatch's talents, as he appeared in two of that year's blockbusters, Steven Spielberg's epic drama "War Horse" and "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" opposite Gary Oldman. But it was his commanding yet entertaining portrayal of the eponymous literary mainstay on the critically acclaimed series "Sherlock" (BBC, 2010- ), that showcased Cumberbatch's mainstream appeal on both sides of the pond, paving the way for even more lucrative and bigger roles in Hollywood.
