There were hearts breaking in Mississippi (and all over the country) when country darling Skylar Laine was eliminated from American Idol Thursday, but the setback doesn’t seem to be taking a toll on Laine’s famously positive attitude.
Fresh off her final song, a fiery rendition of her own idol Miranda Lambert’s country hit “Gunpowder and Lead,” Laine told Hollywood.com she’s feeling country strong. “Everyone expected that if I’m gonna go, I’m gonna go out with a big ol’ taking-down-the-house song, and just rocking out,” says Laine adding, “Miranda’s one of my idols so I wanted to go out on one of her songs.”
But fear not, Skylar fans. Our favorite firecracker has no plans of pumping the breaks on her journey to a full-fledged music career. We asked about the possibility of her writing her own songs, something she mentioned multiples times on Idol. The 18-year-old says she’s “definitely” working on some material of her own. “I’ve already written a lot and I want to go to Nashville … and I want to collaborate with as many people as possible,” said Laine.
And when it comes to cheering on the remaining four singers — Hollie Cavanagh, Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, and Joshua Ledet — the bubbly singer had nothing but words of encouragement. “They know I love them, and that I’m rooting for all of them,” she said. Plus, we’re not too far from getting the gang back together. Laine is looking forward to it, adding “I’ll see y’all at the finale.”
