The ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Spin-Off Is Back On!

Back in 2014, as How I Met Your Mother was ending, CBS announced the spin-off for the series entitled How I Met Your Dad which was supposed to star Greta Gerwig and use the voice of Meg Ryan. The show would have followed Sally Javits (Gerwig), a woman who moves in with her brother Danny and his husband Todd after her own marriage crumbles. Apparently, the reason it wasn’t picked up by CBS was because executive producers  Carter Bays and Craig Thomas were unwilling to reshoot the pilot without receiving a series order. However, it looks like for 2017, CBS is ready to give it another go.

According to Deadline, another spin-off, this time entitled How I Met Your Father is in the works and this one has a ton of ammunition behind it. This Is Us writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are taking on the series, while How I Met Your Mother executive producers Bays and Thomas have stepped up to produce. Though the series is starting from scratch rather than trying to rework the How I Met Your Dad pilot, it seems like a lot will remain the same.

Apparently, there is also potential for a How I Met You Mother alum to star in the series, but until things really rev up, that’s really all of the details we have.
