MTV Movie & TV Awards 2022: The Highlights

Film and TV stars gathered together to celebrate the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards. Hosted by Vanessa Hudgens, this year’s show aired live at the Barker Hanger in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 5th. From iconic star appearances, big wins, and movie and TV magic, here are the best moments from the MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Euphoria and Sydney Sweeney win big

The HBO hit show Euphoria scored 6 awards, including Best Show and Best Fight between Alexa Demie’s Maddy and Sydney Sweeney‘s Cassie. Sydney Sweeney accepted the awards on the cast’s behalf. During her acceptance speech, Sydney even referenced her iconic line from her character this season.

“I wish Alexa was here so that she could thank the amazing fans that we have because you all are so incredible,” she said. “But I have to be honest, Maddie might have gotten the last punch, but Cassie has never, ever been happier.”

MTV Movie & TV Awards welcome Chris Evans

Our own Captain America and Buzz Lightyear, Chris Evans, was spotted on the MTV stage in a NASA-inspired hat. He presented the award for Best Movie which went to Spider-Man: No Way Home. While no one from the cast was in physical attendance, Tom Holland and Zendaya accepted the award via video.

In the video, Tom Holland thanked the fans who voted and showed up to the movies to see the film.

“I did want to take the time to say a massive thank-you to all the fans around the world who voted for Spider-Man: No Way Home and voted for me. To be part of that film, to share that film with you, to be a part of the solidarity that was built up around the world is honestly a dream come true. So thank you so much for making that happen, and on behalf of everyone at Sony and everyone at Marvel, a heartfelt thanks, and I’ll see you soon.”

Jennifer Lopez accepts MTV Generation Award

Vanessa Hudgens presented singer, actress, dancer, and superstar Jennifer Lopez with the honorary MTV Generation Award. She has made an impact throughout her career with her music, movies, dancing, and icon status.

“I want to thank the people who gave me joy, and the ones who broke my heart. The ones who were true, and the ones who lied to me,” J. Lo said in her acceptance speech. “I want to thank true love, and I want to thank the way that I lied to myself because that’s how I knew that I had to grow.”

With her upcoming documentary, Halftime, hitting Netflix soon, there’s nothing Jennifer Lopez can’t do!

Elvis film rocks the MTV Movie & TV Awards stage

Diplo and Swae Lee brought their own Elvis mastery by performing their new song “Tupelo Shuffle.” The song is one of many featured on the upcoming biopic’s soundtrack. The performance was wild, with confetti cannons spitting out on stage. Elvis’ granddaughter also presented a preview of the film, coming to theaters on June 24th.

 If this is any indicator of how the Elvis film will be, we can’t wait.

Jack Black wins Comedic Genius Award

School of Rock and comic legend Jack Black received this year’s Comedic Genius Award. After setting the stage, Jack was in disbelief with his win. “I don’t deserve this,” he said, “but I will take it! Thank you, MTV.” We beg to differ, Jack Black. You deserve all the praise for your amazing heartfelt comedy throughout the years.

During his speech, he also thanked his wife, kids, and fans.

“This is for all the School of Rockers out there, and for all the Tenacious D-isciples. And most of all, my amazing wife, Tanya, and our two incredible boys — I love you, I love you, I love you.”
