Today we’re serving up some HollyGOOD news from the Met Gala!
The 2021 Met Gala took place on Monday, September 13 and was the first Met Gala since 2019! Guests wore designer outfits inspired by the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” as they walked down the red carpet and into the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Let’s dive right into the stunning looks from our favorite Hollywood stars who attended the event!
2021 Met Gala co-chairs
The co-chairs of the 2021 Met Gala were tennis player Naomi Osaka, poet Amanda Gorman, singer Billie Eilish, and actor Timothée Chalamet. According to a 2019 British Vogue article, the co-chairs of the Met Gala are responsible for forming the guest list, choosing the food and decor, and creating the mood of the night.
Dune actor Timothée Chalamet donned a Haider Ackermann look consisting of a white suit jacket with a black collar and white sweatpants. He brought an ‘all-American’ feel with his high-top Converse sneakers.
“Happier Than Ever” singer Billie Eilish wore a Marilyn Monroe-inspired look by Oscar de la Renta. The 19-year-old stunned in a tan ball gown that hung off her shoulders and was followed by a long train. Like many other attendees, this marked Billie Eilish’s first Met Gala.
According to NME, Billie agreed to wear Oscar de la Renta under the condition that the brand went fur-free in their future collections. In accordance with the singer’s veganism, a plant-based meal was served at the Met Gala.
Naomi Osaka wore a gorgeous, multi-colored dress from Louis Vuitton that had long, tiered black sleeves. To complete the look, she wore an extravagant hairdo and makeup, filled with bright pink accents. In an interview with Vogue, Naomi said that she and her sister were able to have a hand in the design process for the dress!
Amanda Gorman wore a lovely royal blue mini dress by Vera Wang that was overlaid with a sheer train. Her accessories were absolutely beautiful, as she clutched a bedazzled book to match her dress and wore a gold leaf crown in her hair. The gold makeup that ran across her face illuminated her eyes and made her stand out even more on the red carpet.
Standout Met Gala looks
YouTube star and entrepreneur Emma Chamberlain held the interviews for Vogue’s YouTube channel this year. The 20-year-old wore a gold Louis Vuitton dress that had a half long/half short skirt and cutouts on the bodice. The dress had an open back fitted with intricate chain detailing. While Emma kept her hair simple, her eye makeup was dark and sultry, completed with a bold metallic green eyeliner.
A number of attendees wore dresses inspired by Old Hollywood stars. Kendall Jenner’s sheer and sparkly Givenchy dress was a nod to Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady. Actress Yara Shahidi wore a floor-length Dior dress and gloves that resembled an outfit of Josephine Baker’s. Similarly, makeup artist and social media star Nikkie de Jager (NikkieTutorials on YouTube) wore a floral dress that referenced American activist Marsha P. Johnson.
Actress Gemma Chan paid homage to Hollywood’s first Chinese-American actress Anna May Wong, wearing a black dress with ornate silver detailing in the shape of a dragon.

While not paying homage to a specific actress, Megan Thee Stallion also went with an Old Hollywood glam look and looked absolutely stunning while doing so. The rapper’s beige bodycon dress, designed by Coach, had a sweetheart neckline and rhinestones dispersed around the bodice.
Lil Nas X is constantly pushing the envelope, proving that he’ll be someone talked about in Hollywood for a very long time. When he first entered the Met Gala, he was donning a huge cape that he shed on the red carpet to reveal gold armor. Lil Nas X then took that off as well, leaving him in a black and gold sparkly bodysuit. In his interview with Vogue, the rapper said that the Versace outfit was made to represent him breaking through his shell now that he has established a name for himself in the entertainment industry.

Ciara was very on theme with her football-inspired neon green gown. The long-sleeve sparkling dress was designed by Peter Dundas and was made to represent her husband Russell Wilson’s color rush jersey for the Seattle Seahawks. Ciara even wore his Superbowl ring!
Schitt’s Creek writer and actor Dan Levy wore a blue outfit that was made to look like a globe, with puffy sleeves and glittery ocean detailing. The front of his shirt depicted a hand-embroidered image of 2 men made of countries that were kissing.
Fashion model Iman stole the show, wearing a gold jumpsuit and feathered skirt that was designed in collaboration by Harris Reed and Dolce & Gabbana. The real highlight of her outfit, however, was the gigantic gold headpiece that was lined with feathers and made her look absolutely radiant. In Iman and Harris Reed’s interview with Vogue, Harris said that 400 hours of work went into making the look!
