Dionne Warwick can “Say a Little Prayer.”
Charges of marijuana possession have been dropped against the singer after a plea-bargain deal was struck between Warwick‘s lawyer and the Miami-Dade County judge Wednesday, The Associated Press reports. The deal included a drug-treatment program.
The 61-year-old Warwick was arrested May 12 at the Miami International Airport after baggage checkers found 11 suspected marijuana cigarettes inside her lipstick container.
“To this day, I am puzzled about exactly what happened at the Miami International Airport,” Warwick said in a statement. “But through the grace of God, I can now put this unpleasant chapter behind me.”
In the agreement, Warwick completed a program for drug treatment and an evaluation, donated $250 to Project Cradle–an organization that supports children born with HIV–and will make an anti-drug public service announcement directed at youth, AP reports.
Warwick‘s cousin, singer Whitney Houston, was involved in a similar incident two years ago, when Houston was stopped by airport security guards in Hawaii after they found a half-ounce of marijuana in her bag. Houston was charged with a misdemeanor, which was later dismissed.
