Suge Knight returns to rap game

Death Row Records cofounder Marion “Suge” Knight will return to the public population upon his Aug. 9 release from an Oregon federal penitentiary. But Knight‘s return to rap prominence is far from certain, according to Variety. Death Row Records, wildly popular in the early 1990s with star rappers Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, had struggled while Knight spent five years in prison, but experienced a brief bright spot this year with the posthumous release of Tupac’s Until the End of Time. But with Tupac’s death, and the bolting of rap superstar and Death Row co-founder Dr. Dre from the label, it will be a tall task for Knight to bring the label–and himself–back from the dead. Knight is currently incarcerated on assault and probation violations.
