When you’re watching The Walking Dead, you’re probably too caught up in the mind-blowing excitement surrounding the captivating characters who, in just six short episodes so far, we have become ridiculously attached to. So, you probably don’t spend a lot of time wondering just how they make the zombies look so realistic (as realistic as a zombie can get, anyway). But once the idea gets into your head, it’s one that stays there. It’s an interesting question because The Walking Dead‘s zombies are really groteque, from the large gashes and missing limbs right down to the bloodshot eyes.

The Walking Dead returns to TV for a really promising second season October 16 at 9 p.m.
