We’ll always have “Walker, Texas Ranger.” Yes, “Freaks and Geeks” may be (and was) flunked; “Sports Night” may be (and was) axed, but Chuck Norris is forever. CBS today renewed the action series for an eighth season. You know how long “I Love Lucy” ran? Seven seasons. Perhaps if Lucy had had some of that Chuck Norris magic …
In other CBS-related fall TV news today, the network unveiled a schedule aimed to serve its current shut-in audience (renewing the older-skewing “Diagnosis Murder,” “Nash Bridges,” “Walker,” “Becker,” etc.) while building its future shut-in audience (launching a sitcom starring Bette Midler, icon of the graying baby boomers).
Among the series being shown the exit door were: “Martial Law,” “Early Edition,” buzz favorite “Now and Again” and never-quite “ER” rival “Chicago Hope” (plugged pulled after six seasons).
Bill Cosby previously announced that his latest sitcom incarnation (“Cosby“) was being retired. But who could have been prepared for this? No more Cosby-rific “Kids Say the Darndest Things?!?”
Thank God we have Chuck Norris to help us through these dark hours.
