We’ve all seen the NBC promos lately that are touting Howard Stern‘s upcoming stint on America’s Got Talent — and some of us have heard the cross-promotion that has more or less hijacked Stern’s radio show. Well, Judd Apatow has had enough!
Last week, amid AGT overkill on The Howard Stern Show, Apatow tweeted, “I hate to say it but I don’t have much interest in discussions about america’s got talent. I tried. It is just too much synergy.”
Stern finally responded … on the air: “Hey, man, do I talk about that last s–tty film [Funny People] you made? I keep it to myself … If you’re not down with it, get the f–k off my channel.” Ouch. Self-proclaimed longtime listener Apatow responded (again via Twitter): “All Of Our work is debated. That is part of it. I don’t get a free pass [and neither] does he. My comment was not even interesting.”
“It gets blown out of proportion by the press who has nothing to write about and Howard who has time to fill,” he continued. “We all Like Certain Parts.”
All seems to be well now, however, with the Stern Show’s official Twitter page having issued the following tweet: “Howard says the war is over w/ @JuddApatow is over after Judd tweeted: I will love the show always. It was a pretty mild tweet”
The truth is, both men would be wise to not offend the other’s audience too much, as their fervent fan bases tend to overlap and both have big projects soon coming out, or already out: the Stern-ified America’s Got Talent begins May 14, while the Apatow-produced Girls just premiered on HBO and his next film, This Is 40, hits theaters Dec. 21.
